Women and Football

I'm not a die hard football fan, but I do watch football
matches occasionally and, of course, being a Frenchman
and all that, I'm quite partial to watching Women's football...

Spartacus Educational has dedicated a full page
to the History of Women's Football...
and a very fascinating one at that.

For example, did you know that in the 1900s
"it was believed that many men watched women's
football because of the desire to see their legs uncovered."?!

Ha! How unfair they were about us men, then!
Of course men probably enjoyed the sight of uncovered legs
(there was no cable tv at the time, after all), but that was only a bonus...

They were watching Women's Football because of
their love of the game and only for that reason alone,
honest! No, really... err... maybe... probably...

[Okay, perhaps not, but still...]

It also seems that "those uncovered legs and men" were not
the only thing that people were using as a way to ridiculise Women's
Football in those days...
